A Reggio-inspired, emergent curriculum
Our preschool approach is rooted in play and inquiry and inspired by the Reggio Emilia tradition.
Teachers observe what children are saying, building, drawing, pretending, collecting, questioning, and returning to. When an idea captures the group's interest, educators look for ways to deepen it. Children practice literacy, mathematics, science, communication, creativity, and problem solving because these skills help them pursue questions that matter to them.
Designed to nurture independence
Our classrooms are intentionally arranged so preschoolers can increasingly navigate their environment themselves. And teachers continually rethink those spaces based on what children are doing and what they appear ready to investigate next.
Teachers document learning through observations, photographs, children's work, classroom displays, Brightwheel communication, and progress reports to give families a much richer picture of learning than a finished art project alone can provide.
Learning beyond the classroom
Preschoolers participate in music with Little Groove, yoga, outdoor play, neighborhood walks, and weekly Cambridge Public Library storytime. The school also offers special investigations and community-connected experiences in our dedicated STEAM Lab.
Families as partners
Families know their children in contexts teachers never see, which makes family knowledge an important part of our work. We want children to experience home and school as connected parts of their lives. Families are invited into school life through optional classroom sharing, community events, school projects, and our Parent-Teacher Association.
